This month James Martin begun the new series on Sky Good Food as celebrity chef; he sails in his very own boat to explore the food culture of the Mediterranean. The next episode of the series is on air this Monday 28th November and takes James to the worldwide known resort of Elounda in the luxurious Domes of Elounda all Suites and Villas Boutique Resort.
The first part of the episode was filmed on the premises of the resort with the astonishing background of the colorful domes and the historic island of Spinalonga, famous from Victoria Hislop’s bestselling novel “The Island”
The filming was divided into several parts:
During the first part, Mr. Martin was introduced to progressive cretan cuisine, with the assistance of the resorts’ chef. He tasted three local recipes which are very characteristic of the area of Elounda:
> Tomato filled with Greek salad, fried spring rolls filled with feta cheese and olive paste
> Sea bass with local Okras and Cretan herbs (Traditional Plaka Dish)
> ‘Tiganites’ local dough pastry fried and then served with thyme honey, strawberries and mastic ice cream
During the remaining part of the episode, James Martin prepared recipes that truly matched the culinary philosophy of the resort at beautiful settings such as the veranda of the Royal Villa as well as the sea restaurant “1910” and its Pier.
Some of the ingredients used for the delights were lamp, sardines, feta cheese, thyme and oregano, and of course traditional Cretan olive oil creating wonderful feasts on camera!
